Asia-Pacific collaboration on climate change action

TK06

23 June 2016

The Governments of Australia and Japan joined climate change officials and experts from across the region at the 25th Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change in Phuket on 20-21 June.

The seminar has been organised by the Government of Japan since 1991. This year it was co-organised with support from the Government of Australia, and hosted by the Kingdom of Thailand in Phuket, Thailand.

Participants discussed efforts to implement the Paris Agreement, sharing experiences to build capacity to implement their emission reduction plans, adaptation planning processes, and transparency arrangements.

Australia and Japan joined more than 170 countries in signing the Agreement in April, which was adopted by all Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris last December.

This is the 13th time Australia has co-organised the seminar with Japan, demonstrating the close collaboration between the countries on climate change and other issues across their governments. This is the 8th co-hosted by Thailand.
