ACO Special Opening Concert for Australia now 2018

29-30 May 2018
Yomiuri Otemachi Hall

Experience the internationally renowned, fresh and dynamic sound of the world-class Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO).

PROGRAM 1 (29 May)

VIVALDI “The Four Seasons”
Richard Tognetti and Joseph Tawadros bring their own blend of musical alchemy to a program that explores musical connections between the Middle East and the West.

Vivaldi’s beloved masterpiece will be interspersed with original works by the Award-winning, Egyptian-Australian oud player, Joseph Tawadros.

PROGRAM 2 (30 May)

KILAR Orawa
VASKS Vox Amoris (Richard Tognetti, violin)
JS BACH The Musical Offering, BWV 1079: Ricercar a 6
BARTOK Divertimento

Ecstatic and sublime, intimate and grand, ethereal and powerful, this visceral concert, featuring the 17 core ACO players, brings together the old and the new for a truly transformative musical journey.

Vasks’ Vox Amoris was written for Richard Tognetti and the ACO and in the words of the Latvian composer is a ‘love story’ between soloist and orchestra, while Bach’s Ricercar a 6 is arguably the finest fugue ever written and showcases the extraordinary talent of the ACO musicians.

Bartók’s Divertimento was part of the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s inaugural concert in 1975 – and is still one of the orchestra’s favourites today.

ACO Special Opening Concert for Australia now 2018 is supported by the Australian Government through the Australia-Japan Foundation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
