Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)

Citizens of Japan travelling to Australia for up to 3 months for tourism, visiting friends or family, or on business visits can apply for an ETA through the Australian ETA App. Download the Australian ETA app for free from the App Store (Apple) or Google Play store (Android). This is the only way to apply for an ETA.

Help when applying for an ETA

You must apply for a new visa if you plan to stay longer in Australia.

You cannot apply for a further ETA while in Australia.

If you are currently in Australia and your ETA is due to expire, you may be eligible for such visa options as the Visitor visa (subclass 600).

For more information on how to stay longer in Australia, see Your visa is expiring or has expired.

We cannot correct or change information after the ETA is granted; please apply for a new ETA with correct information.

Please note that your new ETA does not cancel the old one, which means your old ETA with the wrong information will still appear on the ETA system.

You do not need to contact us about this, and you will be able to travel to Australia without any problems.

You will receive an email with further instructions and a web link. Please follow the instructions in that email to continue your ETA application.

Please send the following to the Australian Immigration Enquiry Form:

  1. a copy of your passport's biodata page

  2. ETA additional information form

  3. the date and time you last departed Australia

  4. the city and airport you last departed Australia

  5. the flight number you departed Australia on (provide evidence, for example, a copy of e-Ticket)

  6. copy of the passport you used when you departed from Australia (if different than your current passport)

  7. passport pages showing arrival at your destination

  8. intended travel date
