Jörg Schmeisser Retrospective 'Neverending Journeys'

Mr Jörg Schmeisser, born in Germany, studied printmaking at universities in Hamburg and Kyoto. From the onset Mr Schmeisser boasted a masterful command of printing techniques, receiving many accolades. He was invited to the Canberra School of Art and immigrated to Australia.
Mr Schmeisser was engrossed in teaching his students and established a school for printmaking. He was also a prolific artist. Based in Canberra he travelled to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia amongst other regions around the globe.
Mr Schmeisser catalogued his memories and experiences of these journeys within his exquisite copper prints. Australia and its vibrant natural environment provided a new perspective to Mr Schmeisser who until then favoured classical cityscapes, which he encapsulated within his works. He received a fellowship from the Australian Antarctic Division which took him to Antarctica and he created a collection of works exulting a sense of deep spirituality. Approximately 180 pieces cataloguing a master printmaker’s half century of creation will be on display.
The exhibit will feature representative works from collections domestic to Japan as well as rare and invaluable pieces from the Schmeisser Collection native to Canberra.
