Promoting Diversity at the Australian Embassy

The Embassy supported Colorful Change Lab’s Study Tour to Sydney to take part in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2024, facilitating meetings with NSW Government and UNSW.

      

 

The Embassy took part in Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2023 on 22-23 April, hosting a booth for the first time. Our volunteers joined fellow Embassies in the Pride 7 group in the Sunday Parade.

   

 

The Embassy’s Claire Elias joined Diet members, civil society, business and the diplomatic community at the inaugural Pride 7 Summit on 30 March 2023.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Embassy has been working with Tokyo Pride House’s Gon Matsunaka and Aya Noguchi who represented Japan in workshops and discussions with the global LGBTQ+ community at the Sydney World Pride 2023 Human Rights Conference on 1-3 March 2023.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prime Minister Albanese became the first seated Australian Prime Minister to march in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on 25 February.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Claire Elias exchanged views with Ms Inada Tomomi from the Diet Members' League on LGBT issues, on legislative ways to prevent discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in February. She also joined a discussion on LGBTQ+ issues with visiting US Special Envoy Jessica Stern.
