During the Australia-Japan Virtual Leaders' Meeting on 9 July, the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison expressed his deepest condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the passing of Mr Shigeru Yokota, father to Ms Megumi Yokota who was abducted by North Korea in the late 1970s. Prime Minister Morrison noted that he could only imagine the sadness and pain occasioned by Ms Yokota's abduction.
