Marking 50 years of friendship and cooperation, the inaugural Australia–Japan Subnational Diplomacy Forum 2026 will bring together leaders from government, business, academia and communities to explore how local and regional partnerships can help shape the next chapter of Australia–Japan relations.
The Forum will examine the power of subnational diplomacy through discussions on sister-city partnerships, education, trade, sustainability, sport, innovation, disaster resilience and youth exchange. It will celebrate the connections that have brought our countries closer while creating new opportunities for communities across Australia and Japan to collaborate, innovate and prosper.
