Australia’s Hydrogen Future Seminar

Australia’s Chief Scientist, Dr Alan Finkel AO, provides high-level independent advice to the Australian government on matters relating to innovation, science and technology while being an advocate for Australian science internationally.
Most recently, Dr Finkel has been working on defining the opportunities for Australia through the development of a hydrogen economy. Recognising Japan’s strong leadership in this industry, he will travel to Japan to learn more about the technologies and applications for industry being developed here.
On Thursday 27 September 2018, Dr Finkel will give a lecture at the Australian Embassy Tokyo about his vision for ‘Australia’s Hydrogen Future’. He will be joined by Dr Patrick Hartley, Acting Director, Hydrogen Energy Systems Future Science Platform, CSIRO Energy.
The Australian, Victorian and Japanese Governments have recently co-funded a pilot project to convert Victorian brown coal into liquefied hydrogen for export to Japan. The establishment of the world-first Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain (HESC) project is being developed by a consortium of companies led by Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries. It will open a new front for Australia-Japan research innovation working towards a clean energy future.
