Australia Japan Innovation and Research Symposium

Australia Japan Innovation and Research Symposium

23 October 2018

Universities Australia (UA), in partnership with the Japan Association of National Universities (JANU), will host an Innovation and Research Symposium to showcase research and innovation collaboration between Australia and Japan.

The Kyoto Institute of Technology and the University of Tasmania will lead a dialogue on the future of research cooperation between Japan and Australia.

The event will be joined by approximately 20 Australian university leaders to discuss high level policy issues and explore opportunities for innovative collaboration in research and research training with Japanese academics and business leaders.

Speakers include the inaugural Rio Tinto Australia-Japan fellow, representatives from Suntory Global Innovation Center and the Japan Science and Technology Agency, and a number of university leaders showcasing their successful partnerships and research outcomes.

Throughout the day, we will highlight some of the outstanding work already underway and discuss how to increase institutional linkages as well as researcher and research student mobility. We will also discuss avenues for cooperation outside of universities including research institutes, centres of excellence and industry-led research.

Australian delegates will be invited to stay in Kyoto following the event to visit campuses in the region.

This event aims to strengthen and deepen bilateral ties with Japan and raise Australia’s profile as an innovative, creative nation and a partner of choice for research and research training.
