9 July 2018

On behalf of the Government and the people of the Australia, H.E. Mr Richard Court AC, Ambassador to Japan, has conveyed messages of condolences to the Government and people of Japan over the loss of human lives and the devastation caused by floods and landslides in western Japan.

Ambassador Court said: “Our thoughts are with the people of Japan at this time of sorrow after the loss of so many lives. We send our condolences to the families who have lost loved ones in this terrible event. Many Australians feel a deep affection for Japan and its people, so we are naturally moved when a disaster of this scale occurs. My experience of Japan’s fortitude in the face of adversity gives me confidence that the people of western Japan will overcome the disaster and rebuild their communities.”
