The National Museum of Art, Osaka (NMAO) is hosting a lecture event concerning topics that are particularly related to “TRAVELERS: STEPPING INTO THE UNKNOWN,” an exhibition scheduled to open in commemoration of the Museum’s 40th anniversary.
Tailored to everyday museum-goers, the lecture by Alana Kushnir, Australian curator/lawyer will discuss the various forms of legislation relating to practicing art, using the aforementioned exhibition as a case study. The event will broach a plethora of topics spanning from the basics such as copyrights, to the featured performances included within the exhibit and how legal systems protect art practices and support creativity. The aim of the event is to increase awareness of the relationship between art and legislation amongst everyday museum-goers, introducing Australia as a case study.
A lecture hosted by professionals about the legislation surrounding contemporary art is nearly unprecedented in Japan.
